We strongly recommend visiting the
practice and/or completing an externship prior to applying for the
internship.
Dates of
internship: June 1, 2012 - May31, 2013
and July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013
The internship program at
Interstate Equine Services is designed to simulate general equine
practice.
Interns will be exposed to all aspects of equine medicine and surgery.
Interns are encouraged and expected to manage both outpatient and
hospitalized cases on their own, however oversight and input from
experienced clinicians is always available. Initially supervision is
constant but as our comfort level with the intern increases, supervision
will decrease to an as needed basis.
|
Emergency Duty Requirements: For the
initial 30 days, the intern is required to be available
24/7. The intern will receive all emergencies with a senior clinician
and together they will asses and manage the emergency. This allows the
intern to learn where things are kept and the IES way of doing things.
It also allows the clinician to determine how comfortable and
competent the intern is and determines when the intern is ready for
unsupervised emergency duty. It is expected that by the end of the
initial 30 days the intern is ready. Emergency duty at that time
decreases to 50%. For the entire internship period, all
emergency referrals by area veterinarians will be seen by the intern
and a senior clinician. |
